CLASS 3 DRIVER TRAINING

WORK TOWARDS YOUR CLASS 3. OPERATING A 3 OR 4-AXLE TRUCK, SUCH AS TANDEM OR TRI-AXLE.

*Participants holding a valid Class 3 for 2 years may be eligible for the Class 1 Experience and Equivalency upgrade. This allows participants to get their Class 1 at a reduced financial and time investment. See Class 1 E&E information

WITH YOUR CLASS 3 LICENSE, YOU CAN DRIVE THE FOLLOWING:

  • Any motor vehicle that the holder of a Class 5 license may drive

  • Single motor vehicle with 3 or more axles

  • Motor vehicle with 3 or more axles that is towing a trailer with one or more axles (if the trailer is not equipped with airbrakes)

  • Dump Truck

  • Tandem axle straight truck

  • Vacuum truck

  • Water truck

  • Garbage and front-load trucks

  • Pump truck

  • Mixer (cement) truck

  • Large flatbed or tow trucks

  • Lugger or roll-off trucks

  • Larger road-rail vehicles

  • Some Firefighter vehicles

STEPS TO GET YOUR CLASS 3 LICENCE

ELIGIBILITY FOR CLASS 3

  • Have a full Class 5 driver’s licence, No GDL

  • Be a least 18 years old

  • Must have a Q-Endorsement (Air-Brakes)

Class 3 Course Objectives

Upon successful completion of this novice course, students will demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to safely operate a Class 3 vehicle in accordance with all applicable provincial/state regulations, thereby meeting the requirements for obtaining a Class 3 driver's license.

We have an automatic and a manual transmission vehicle to practice and road test in for your convenience.

Novice Driver Class 3 Training Package

Course Objectives

Upon successful completion of this novice course, students will demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to safely operate a Class 3 vehicle in accordance with all applicable provincial/state regulations, thereby meeting the requirements for obtaining a Class 3 driver's license.

Course Content

Participants will be paired with an SBC driver. They will complete all practical exercises.

Documentation requirements and understanding shall encompass a review of vehicle insurance and registration, valid Commercial Vehicle Inspection Program (CVIP) certification, Safety Fitness Certificate, proper completion of a pre-trip inspection, interpretation of bills of lading or weigh bills, and other relevant documents.

Driving exercises shall include city driving, lane changes, dual turns, referencing corners, blind corner maneuvers, navigating railway crossings, and downhill and uphill parking procedures.

*Additional training time can be purchased at $145/hr

Financial Investment

  • $1500.00, inclusive of the practical exercises outlined above, the cost of one road test and 1.5 hours of vehicle rental for said road test, and a study guide for the practical road test.

* Students shall be responsible for all costs associated with multiple road test attempts and vehicle rentals in the event of an unsuccessful road test outcome.

Additional Requirements

  • Successful completion of a written knowledge test at an Alberta Registry office

  • Submission completion of air brakes

Experienced Driver Class 3 Training Package

HOW TO UPGRADE: FROM CLASS 5 - CLASS 3

TAKE KNOWLEDGE TEST

  • Go to a registry agent and take a driver's knowledge test. You will need to pay a $17 fee to take the test. You can only take one attempt per day.

  • You will need to bring acceptable ID.

  • To drive a vehicle with air brakes, you must pass an air brake knowledge test. This is one of the first steps we suggest.

PASS VISION TEST

  • A registry agent will test your vision to see if your vision is good enough to drive.

PASS ROAD TEST

  • A road test will be scheduled by Safety Buzz Campus

  • Safety Buzz Campus’s driver trainers can work with you to prepare you for the driving practical as well as can provide a vehicle for the driving test. The cost of driving time and utilizing our drivers trainer vehicle is $145/hr.  For your convenience, we have an automatic and a manual transmission vehicle to practice and road test in.
